How does Basketball Work?

In writing, we have been doing explanation writing. We got to pick our own topic I picked basketball. Here it is:

Question I am Answering:  How does Basketball work?
Basketball is a sport that you bounce a ball and try to get it in the hoop. The hoop is 10 feet. The hoop has a backboard so can bounce the ball into the hoop. In a real Basketball game there is 5 a side. Basketball was invented by Canadian Dr. James Naismith. It was invented in 1891. A shot from inside the three point line is two points. If it is on the three point line or behind it, it is 3 points.

There are fouls in Basketball, here are some: Travel if you take more than 3 steps holding the ball, double dribble is when you dribble then pick up the ball and then dribble again, a shooting foul is when you shoot and someone does too much contact. You get free throws from a shooting foul. There are 4 quarters and the quarters are 12 minutes each (in a real Basketball game). The best basketball player is LeBron James (in my opinion). He stands at 6 feet (2.03m) he also weighs 113 kg. He is good at shooting, defence, rebounding, passing, shot blocking, dunking and dribbling.

There are 5 positions in basketball, theres point guard, shooting guard, small forward, power forward and centre. Most Basketball players are strong and tall. The NBA is the league where the best players go to. You can watch the NBA on TV. Basketball is one of the popular and widely viewed sports. The NBA team with the most titles is Celtics with 17 and 2nd is Lakers with 16. Celtics also have the most wins with 3,329 wins.
If you want to shoot you hold the ball with your non dominant hand and you flick the ball with the other hand into the hoop.  The most used skill is through the legs so all you do is bounce the ball through your legs. Millions of people watch the NBA. It is very hard to make it to the NBA. There is a lot of pressure in the NBA because there is millions of people watching especially in the NBA Finals. The NBA finals is the two best teams of the season versing each other. It is the best out of 7 games.

Before the NBA Finals, it’s the NBA Playoffs. Where it is all the NBA teams versing, it is best out of 7 so it is a tournament and that leads up to the NBA Finals. The Golden State Warriors won 2017 and 2018 NBA Finals. The Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers are the best teams. The Cavaliers are one of the best because they have the best player carrying, he is “LeBron James”. He is only best player on team and he still carried the team to a championship in 2016 and carried them to the NBA Finals every time since.

Their biggest rivals are the Golden State Warriors, they have the best players, they have: Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson those are the best players on the team. The Cavaliers only have LeBron James.
If you work hard enough and commit, you could make to the NBA and be just like LeBron James. The league below the NBA is college basketball. Basketball is very hard to get used to because there is a lot of fouls. You can injured in Basketball if you take a shot and jump and land in a weird position. Being a NBA player is hard because you have to show up to training, you have make your team and fans proud but you do get a lot of money for being in the NBA.

If you want to take a shot, a defender will most likely be there so you have to shoot over them so you don't get blocked from the defender. There is a outline in basketball if you step out with the ball or the ball hits behind the outline, it is out! You could get ejected from the game for doing too much fouls or fighting or arguing with the referees

SVA

In Reading, we are learning about the SVA. Here is what I learned:

The Student Volunteer Army (SVA) originated in Christchurch following the devastating earthquakes of 2010 and 2011.The SVA has since become a multi-faceted movement with a focus on enabling New Zealanders to give back to their communities. Christchurch was struck with a 7.1 magnitude earthquake on the 4th of September 2010. In response to this natural disaster, University of Canterbury student, Sam Johnson, created a Facebook group called the “Student Base for Earthquake Clean Up”. Sam invited friends to join him in assisting local residents with non life-saving tasks, in particular removing liquefaction around Christchurch. Sam Johnson is the chairman of SVA. The SVA had 2,000 volunteers, now it has 75,000 volunteers. The SVA is helping NZ be a better place.

Water Cycle

The Water Cycle
I will be talking about the water cycle which has 3 stages.  These stages are Evaporation, Condensation and Precipitation. The water cycle goes on forever it keeps on going round in a circle.

Evaporation:
The first part of the water cycle is Evaporation. This is water when  evaporates into vapour which goes into clouds. This happens when the sun heats up the water and turns into vapour. Vapour is water in gas form. If you heat up water in a pot, you can see steam coming out that is vapour.

Condensation:
The second part of the water cycle is Condensation. Condensation is when the vapour turns into water. The water can be solid which is hail and liquid which is rain. An example of Condensation is when warm, moist air hits cold objects. Another example when you are taking a shower and the water is hot, there is a lot of steam that is Condensation.

Precipitation:
The third and last part of the water cycle is Precipitation. Precipitation is when the clouds get to heavy and are filled with water. So the water comes down on the surface of Earth. The water can be hail, rain, spitting and snow.

We need the water cycle to stay alive because we need water. We need water for plants to help them grow. The water cycle fills up rivers.

  • Something that I did well: I think my spelling is good and my paragraphs.
  • Something I can improve for next time: I need more writing

Science Experiment

What is bone made of?

Aim  To investigate the effect of acid on bone.

Method
1.Collect 4 chicken bones
2. Weigh each bone
3. Put bone in a container
4. Add water and seal the lid
5. Repeat with acid and cola

Results

Bone in Water
Bone in Acid
Bone in Coca Cola
Observation
Just absorb the
water and made it
stink.
Went really bendy
and loss .2 grams.
Not much difference
but turned black and not
bendy.
Mass (g) Before
8 grams
9 grams
8 grams / 9 grams
Mass (g) After
12 grams
8.8 grams
9.8 grams
Difference in Mass
4 grams
.2 grams
.8 grams 1 grams

Conclusion
The acid bone is bendy because the acid has eaten away the strong part of the bone. The water bone was stinky because it was staying in there for 2 weeks, so the water got bacteria. The coke bone was black because the coke is black and its been in there for 2 weeks
